OCCUPANCY is a series of colour photographs that focus on residential areas within and around Hamilton´s waterfront between 2004 and 2005.
Aptly nicknamed Steeltown, Hamilton was once renowned for its position as the site of two industrial giants, Stelco and Dofasco. The rise and fall of these two titans of steel manufacturing defined the last century in Hamilton, indelibly shaping its geography, economy, political landscape and character. This series explores issues of socio-economic change and cultural memory by focusing exclusively on the cultural signifiers found in the domestic areas nestled within this deteriorated industrial district.
These images were taken before revitalization of the waterfront began.
